It also paved the way for brave and exciting new developments in synthesis, enabling today’s VST synth designers to achieve sounds beyond early synth builders’ wildest dreams. This leap in synthesis technology made music creation accessible to many more people, with the costs of buying VST synths being significantly less, and sometimes even free in comparison to much more expensive hardware synthesizers. During the 1960s and 1970s, the futuristic feel of synth-based music became more and more popular, and by the 1980s most pop hits were created using a synthesizer. The invention of the synthesizer has had a tremendous influence on the evolution of modern music, playing a key role in the writing and recording of many of the most iconic albums ever made.
